The Vinery brand was once again in the spotlight on the big stage when Fireball Miss delivered a scintillating performance to capture the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

A filly who has shown ability from the outset, the daughter of Bivouac has enioyed a meteoric rise through the ranks this preparation. After breaking her maiden at just her second start in February, Fireball Miss quickly established herself as a staying filly on the rise this season. After finishing a brave third in Listed company in April the filly took her form to another level with victor in the Group 2 The Roses at Doomben before confirming her class with a dominant Group 1 triumph in the Queensland Oaks.

Prepared by leading trainer Caron Maher, Fireball Miss made the step up to elite level look easy under jockey Declan Bates. Travelling strongly throughout, Fireball Miss cruised to the lead approaching the final furlong, comfortably holding oft the late challenge of the in-form Panova to secure her first Group 1 success.

“It’s a super result. The Bennett Racing team pick really nice horses, they’ve got a great record and I’m thrilled to train for them,” Maher said.

You can see how well she looks, and I think she’s a filly for the future. She had a pretty sweet run and you can see what a beautiful action she’s got. When she matures fully she’s going to be a nice mare.”

Bates was equally impressed with the manner of the victory, particularly given the filly never fully switched off during the running.

“She just built through her gears and put them away,” Bates said.

“She’s a nice filly and she’s very much on the up. She’s clearly got a good engine.”

Purchased by Bennett Racing for $140,000 from Vinery Stud’s draft at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Fireball Miss has already proven a tremendous return on investment. The talented filly has now banked almost $700.000 in prizemoney, recording three wins and multiple stakes performances from just seven starts in her first preparation.

Proudly bred by Vinery client Simon Delzoppo and his family, Fireball Miss is the second foal from their stakes-berformed Pierro mare Femme Fireball and second Group 1 winner produced by the mare being the half-sister to Group 1 South Australian Derby winner Femminile, who was likewise offered by Vinery Stud through the Inglis Easter sale ring for a similar price tag. Femminile has since gone on to sell for $1.5million to Yulong Investments at the 2025 Magic Millions broodmare sale.

Fireball Miss is the sixth Stakes winner to emerge from Vinery’s outstanding 2024 crop, which also features recent Group 3 Fred Best Classic winner Regal Award, one of the leading hopes for this Saturday’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
