Spring often delivers its share of emotional victories, but few have hit the heart quite like the Group 3 triumph of All Too Hard’s mare Oh Too Good on Caulfield Guineas Day.

It’s not every day you see a one-horse stable shine on racing’s big stage. Yet for trainer Kevin Daffy, Saturday’s win in the Group 3 Catanach’s Jewellers Vase (1600m) was nothing short of elation as his pride and joy surged clear under Damian Lane to score decisively.

A private purchase from Gigai Farm in Victoria, Oh Too Good is out of the Duporth mare Good Oh and has now amassed more than $770,000 in prizemoney. With six wins and six placings from just 15 starts, the six-year-old mare has built a record that epitomises her sire’s best trait, consistency.

After a narrow defeat in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes two starts ago behind Lazzura, Lane once again took the reins. Breaking well to settle just off the speed on the rails, Oh Too Good travelled sweetly before peeling three-wide and putting her rivals away in dominant fashion.

A clearly emotional Daffy was in awe of his mare post-race:

“I can’t describe the feeling. She really deserved it. I’m so proud of her. She just tries so hard, and she never puts in a bad run.”

“I’ve dedicated my whole life to this horse. Every minute of every day. If I’m not with her, I’m watching her and making sure she’s happy so she can do her best.”

Growing up with racing in his blood, Daffy’s father trained in Victoria, but after years away from the sport, he found himself drawn back in to the industry. What started as a modest venture with a single horse has become the fairytale of his life.

Affectionately known as Gigi, or “the other woman in his life” according to Daffy’s wife, Oh Too Good was love at first sight. Kevin recalls being instantly captivated by the young filly’s presence and that instinct has proven golden.

Oh Too Good now becomes All Too Hard’s 31st Stakes winner, joining a top class bunch of Group-winning fillies by the Vinery stallion, including Forbidden Love, Steffi Magnetica, Philia and Little Baia.

Standing this season at $27,500 inc. GST and offering exceptional fertility of over 83%, All Too Hard continues to prove himself as one of Australia’s best value, proven sires.
