Vinery Stud sire Star Turn signed off a career-best season in 2022-23 when Hasten Delight completed a hat-trick at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Hasten Delight is trained by Peter Robl for Ross Lao (Upper Bloodstock) and his victory in the Eva Air Plate (1300m) sent Star Turn’s Australian stats to 87 individual winners for earnings over $5.31 million.

Earlier this year, Robl transferred from Randwick to the Gold Coast where he took over the stables previously owned by John Morrissey.  “I had been discussing the move with Ross for twelve months,” Robl said.  “He was keen to acquire a set of stables up here.  Even though he lives in Macau, he has a residence on the Gold Coast.

“We’ve been patient with Hasten Delight.  He’s been moving through the grades with haste so it won’t be long before he steps up to the bigger stage.

“He didn’t have it all his own way today after working hard outside the leader.  But when the heat came on late in the straight, he kept finding to hold them off narrowly.”

Hasten Delight (3g Star Turn – Hostile Witness by Street Sense) was bred and sold by Edinglassie studmaster Mick Talty for $180,000 at the 2021 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  His dam is a half-sister to Joku (Xaar) who was a Listed winner of the 2009 BRC Bernborough Hcp, MRC John Dillon Stakes and Kilmore Cup for Gai Waterhouse.

Talty also started a new venture recently after 30 years at Edinglassie in Muswellbrook.  Mick and his wife Michelle moved south along the Denman Road to their own 70-acre farm named Akuna Park.

Vinery completed a double at Eagle Farm on Saturday with Canadian Dancer in the Mount Franklin Hcp (1400m).  Raced by Proven Thoroughbreds, the Vancouver mare was sold by Vinery (as agent) for $50,000 at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Canadian Dancer was offered by Vinery on behalf of Phoenix Thoroughbreds at Oaklands Junction and her residual value was assured following a Listed victory in last year’s BRC Princess Stakes (1640m) at Doomben.

Her USA-bred dam Kicker (Hard Spun) is a half-sister to Group 1 Secretariat Stakes winner Startac (Theatrical) who sired winners during a truncated stud career at St Jude Pastoral in Western Australia.

Star Turn stands at Vinery Stud for a $27,500 (inc GST) service fee payable on a live foal.  For bookings or further information, contact Adam White (0414 800 918) or Harry Roach (0401 970 006).
