Not for the first time, the Vinery Stud connection came up trumps for trainer Michael Freedman when Allaboutella scored a last-stride victory on debut at Newcastle on Saturday.

Allaboutella (Trapeze Artist) arrived in the nick of time to nail the Prosperity Smart Drive Maiden (900m) in a three-way photo from Full Revolution (Russian Revolution) and Legolas (Capitalist).

The athletic 2yo filly had smashed the record for Vinery’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale graduates when making $430,000 twelve months ago.  She’s the first live foal from Zelady’s Night Out (Myboycharlie) who won a GCTC Bruce McLachlan Stakes Gr.3 and BRC Calaway Gal Stakes LR.

Freedman trains Allaboutella for Sheriff Iskander and agent Suman Hedge.  “She’s a stunner and we’re excited to secure her from Vinery,” Hedge said at Riverside Stables.  “She was our No.1 pick among the fillies here this week and we’re over the moon to take her home.”

The Newcastle result comes just a fortnight after Freedman farewelled star mare Forbidden Love following an unplaced effort in the Expressway Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) at Rosehill.  The three-time Group 1-winning daughter of Vinery sire All Too Hard was crowned 2022 South Australia-bred Horse of the Year last week.

Forbidden Love was bred by former Australian Olympian Kerry O’Brien and his wife Juliet.  She will be catalogued for the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in May.

Vinery’s 2016 Inglis Classic Sale graduate Frolic (Husson) was instrumental in helping Freedman re-establish himself in Australia after eight years training in Singapore and Hong Kong.  She won the 2017 Inglis 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) and Reisling Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) at Randwick before finishing runner-up to She Will Reign in the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr.1, 1200m) at Rosehill.

Frolic’s half-brother by Star Turn has been catalogued as Lot 553 at this week’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.  He will be sold during Monday’s afternoon session and is described as a “quality colt with a great walk” by Vinery bloodstock manager Adam White.
