Vinery Stud climaxed another successful session at the Gold Coast Magic Millions when its Too Darn Hot – Enbihaar filly made $1million on Friday.
Catalogued as Lot 828, the first-crop daughter of Darley shuttler Too Darn Hot (GB) followed the Vinery-consigned Exceed And Excel colt ($400,000) and Written Tycoon filly ($475,000).
The Day 4 trio averaged $625,000.
Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott bought her in conjunction with bloodstock agent Johnny McKeever for Watership Down Stud owners Andrew and Madeleine Lloyd-Webber.
They raced Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) to elite-level victories in the Dewhurst Stakes (Gr.1, 1400m) at Newmarket, Prix Jean Prat (Gr.1, 1400m) at Deauville and Sussex Stakes (Gr.1, 1600m) at Goodwood.
“We came here wanting to buy one by Too Darn Hot,” McKeever said. “The Lloyd-Webbers still own half the horse with Darley, so we looked at every one of his yearling and she was the absolute queen.”
Her dam Enbihaar (Magnus) won the 2018 MRC Blue Diamond Prelude (Gr.2, 1100m) at Caulfield for Sheikh Hamdan and was later sold for $825,000 at the Shadwell Estates Dispersal. Her first foal Extremely Wicked (Zoustar) was runner-up on debut at Moonee Valley on New Year’s Eve.
“The mother had a massive amount of ability and this filly will be given every opportunity with Gai and Adrian,” McKeever added. “Andrew and Madeleine wanted to have a horse in training with them so it’s a lovely, happy coincidence that we all know each other and get on great.”
Vinery freshman Exceedance was also popular on Friday with the colt from Dublin Lass (Lot 809) making $370,000 and the filly out of Bim Bam Boom (Lot 664) changing hands for $250,000.
Edinburgh Park owner Ian Smith sold the Dublin Lass colt to agent Damon Gabbedy who was acting for trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy. He’s the second foal from a mare who was a Listed winner of a Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill and Bright Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.
“We rated him the best Exceedance here,” Gabbedy said. “He’s a quality colt off a good farm and his dam is from a family of running mares.”
Cambridge Stud’s Brendan and Jo Lindsay purchased the Exceedance filly out of Bim Bam Boom (I Am Invincible) from Rosemont Stud. She’s the first foal of an unraced half-sister to NZ Group 1 winner Albany Reunion (Fastnet Rock).
The Lindsays parted with $280,000 for a Snitzel filly from Vinery at the 2019 Magic Millions. Named Letzbeglam, she won the 2020 Blue Diamond Prelude (Gr.2, 1100m) at Caulfield and added the Counties Bowl (Gr.3, 1100m) at Pukekohe in November.
Vinery completes its Book 1 draft to the Magic Millions on Saturday evening with colts by Exceedance (Lot 919), Russian Revolution (Lot 943) and a filly by Snitzel (Lot 979).
