The Exceedance connection has continued an exciting introduction to buyers at the Magic Millions National Sale on the Gold Coast.
Vinery Stud’s explosive Group 1 sprinter topped turnover for first-season sires at the Weanling Sale and he followed up with mares carrying a second-crop PPT at the Broodmare Sale.
Allure (NZ) was one of four mares targeted by Vinery at the 2021 National Sale with the specific intention of increasing the market exposure of Exceedance. Buying the quartet has also been a very successful exercise, dollar-wise.
Vinery bought Allure for $150,000 in foal to Microphone and that colt made $260,000 at the Weanling Sale when purchased by Musk Creek Farm owner David Kobritz. Allure was also sold in foal to Exceedance for $260,000 at the Broodmare Sale when purchased by Garryard Equine.
“The four mares we bought have good pedigrees and suit Exceedance physically and pedigree-wise,” Vinery Bloodstock Manager Adam White said. “We’re sure they will produce some good-looking foals.
“Allure’s Microphone colt is a very good-looking first foal. That was a big selling point for her when you’ve already had such a good physical.”
The Exceedance influence was another factor when his 3yo half-sister Mac ‘N’ Cheese was purchased by Yulong Stud for $1.6 million on the Gold Coast. The Sebring filly is a dual-Listed winner at Morphettville and will stay in training next season with Tony & Calvin McEvoy.
The first mares in foal to Vinery sire Ole Kirk were headed by Smokin’ Hussay (Rothesay) who sold to Fernrigg Farm for $180,000. She is a winning full-sister to Group 1 J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) winner Rothfire.
Casino Prince was in the spotlight when his Group 3 winner Baccarat Baby sold for $900,000 to Dermot Farrington Bloodstock. She will be covered by Toronado (Ire) at Swettenham Stud this season.
Two of Vinery’s old-guard were also prominent with $400,000 graduates at the Broodmare Sale. More Than Ready (USA) mare Greatest Joy, a full-sister to More Joyous, is off to Windsor Park in NZ and Testa Rossa’s Flemington Group 3 winner Chaillot was knocked down to Trilogy Racing.
Magic Millions Yearlings continue the National Sale as from Tuesday on the Gold Coast. All Too Hard (10 lots) leads Vinery sires ahead of Star Turn (9), Press Statement (6), More Than Ready (2) and Headwater (2).
