The first foals by Exceedance have won the approval of a discerning buying-bench at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast.
Vinery’s Group 1 winning stallion led turnover for first-season stallions with all seven selling for a total $749,000 by the close of trade on Friday. They averaged $107,000 with the Day 2 filly from Loved Up (Lot 312) topping his draft at $200,000 when purchased by NZ-based Landsdowne Park.
“She’s a queen,” Landsdowne Park’s Dave Duley said on Saturday morning. “She was the one we really wanted. The walk, attitude, scope – everything you look for going forward. She will thrive on the New Zealand grass with the others in our system being prepared for Karaka next January.”
Landsdowne Park returns to Ohaupo on the North Island with three foals for the 2023 NZB Yearling Sale. “It was a very strong sale at the Gold Coast,” Duley continued. “The Exceedance filly cost a little bit more than we anticipated but we’re very happy taking her home.”
Exceedance sired her from Loved Up (Nicconi) who won a Scone Guineas RL and Albury Guineas for a syndicate managed by trainer Brett Cavanough and his wife Lauren. Vinery bought her for $120,000 from Segenhoe Stud at last year’s Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.
Exceed And Excel influences both sides of her pedigree. He also sired Loved Up’s half-sister Liesele to a black-type victory in the 2013 Alinghi Stakes LR at Caulfield.
Vinery sold its complete consignment at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale and finished Top 5 for turnover ($1,135,000) and average ($162,143). A Microphone colt from Allure (Lot 135) led the Stud’s Day 1 trade at $260,000 and that was equalled by a Capitalist colt (Lot 257) purchased by Victorian-based Diamond Park Breeding & Racing in conjunction with agent Bevan Smith Bloodstock on Day 2.
The Capitalist colt is the second foal of Irish-bred mare Haraka (Fastnet Rock) who was a 2yo winner in England. Second-dam Luna Wells (Sadlers Wells) won a Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp.
Magic Millions commences the National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday. Among the 15 lots from Vinery are six mares in foal to Exceedance.
