Vinery sires Headwater and All Too Hard have finished Top 3 on the Inglis Gold Yearling Sale leader-board for fillies in Melbourne.
During two sessions of spirited competition at Oaklands, Inglis reported turnover of $4.97million off an 85% clearance rate. Hong Kong-based Legend Racing owner Bon Ho broke the Gold Sale record with $260,000 for a filly by Extreme Choice.
The Headwater – Little Indian filly (Lot 291) was second at $200,000 when purchased by Robbie Griffiths and Mathew De Kock from Blue Gum Farm. The Cranbourne trainers and agent Peter Ford were acting for Heywood Bloodstock.
The All Too Hard – Savsenga filly (Lot 33) was next best at $100,000. Another Blue Gum Farm entrant and another filly targeted by Legend Racing., she will be trained by John Sadler at Caulfield.
“It’s been a fabulous sale for the Farm,” Blue Gum’s Phil Campbell said on Monday. “The Headwater filly is a terrific example for the Gold Sale whereby a nice filly who gets a little bit more time to physically and mentally mature can really come into her own. And that’s exactly what this filly did.”
She’s the second foal of Little Indian (Not A Single Doubt) who won at Flemington for a Rupert Legh-managed syndicate. Her first is an unraced Star Turn 2yo named Hokolesqua with Team Hawkes.
“You could throw a saddle over her tomorrow. She’s readymade,” Griffiths – De Kock Racing manager Corey Smith said. “She has a great walk and a strong shoulder. We thought she was the best filly in the sale.”
About an hour before she changed hands, The Wayfarer led home a quinella for Headwater in the Rapid Clean Maiden (1000m) at Tamworth. He broke clear at the top of the straight and bolted in by three lengths from Nice Water.
Headwater leads the Australian second-season premiership with earnings of $2.96million. The Wayfarer also gave him an equal share of the lead for wins (57) with Spill The Beans.
The All Too Hard filly purchased by Sadler on Sunday is a half-sister to his promising 2yo Starry Legend (Zoustar) who won the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Rush (1000m) at Bendigo in March. “We’ve got a very healthy opinion of the colt and he really could enhance this filly’s page in the spring,” Sadler predicted. “She’s going to be a lovely addition to the stable and will be up and running by this time next year.”
The filly’s dam Savsenga (Reset) is owned by Phil Wilton and she foaled an All Too Hard colt last August.
