Letzbeglam ignited a black-type assault for Vinery Stud on Saturday with a stunning victory in the Blue Diamond Prelude Gr.2 at Caulfield.

The Vinery graduate had won on debut at Werribee last month but went out a $31 outsider when jumping several grades into the final prelim for the Blue Diamond Stakes Gr.1 on February 22.

Letzbeglam did it the hard way in the Prelude sitting three-wide without cover before accelerating like a filly with a future.  Sportsbet reacted by firming her into $6.50 behind market-leaders Hanseatic ($2.60) and Rulership ($5.50) for the $1.50 million grand-final in a fortnight.

“I thought it would be another stepping-stone today but she’s come out, raised the bar and shown just how good she is,” jockey Brett Prebble said.  “She has improved so much from her first run at Werribee.

“She’s just learning but has plenty of presence and is going to get over further.  She’s not really precocious although she’s got a high cruising speed.  She was floating until the 250m and I think she’s a classic filly for the spring.”

Letzbeglam (Snitzel) graduated from Vinery’s draft to the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions for $280,000 and that looks like money well spent by Cambridge Stud couple Brendan & Jo Lindsay.

They also race last-start Ellerslie 2yo winner Vernazza who is by Vinery legend More Than Ready.  Vernazza is a Cambridge Stud homebred and is being prepared for a Group 1 autumn campaign aimed at the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes Gr.1 at Awapuni on March 28.

Vinery graduate Miss Siska is also Group 1 bound in the autumn after an easy win in the Carlyon Cup Gr 3 at Caulfield on Saturday.  She was offered by Vinery at the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale on behalf of breeder Terry Davenport.

Miss Siska (So You Think) was racing first-up after a spring campaign that climaxed with Group 2 placings in the Matriarch Stakes and Sandown Classic.  She is a younger half-sister to champion sprinter Hay List.

Trainer Graham Begg said Miss Siska will be set for the Peter Young Stakes Gr 2 at Caulfield on February 22 before her main goal in the Australian Cup Gr.1 at Flemington a fortnight later.

Vanna Girl (Husson) is another Vinery graduate with a Group 1 assignment on the horizon after impressing in the Mount Franklin Hcp (1600m) at Eagle Farm.  She was a $40,000 buy for trainers Toby & Trent Edmonds from the Vinery draft to the 2018 Inglis Classic Sale.

“She can get further than a mile and we’re daring to hope she can get out in distance for the (Gr.1) Queensland Oaks at the winter carnival,” Toby Edmonds said as the winner returned to scale on Saturday.  “We will press on and she can win a few more to increase her rating.”

Vanna Girl hails from the family of Champion Australian 3YO Naturalism and 1997 Queensland Oaks Gr.1 winner Crystal Palace.
