Ed Goff and Harrison Badger have both been working on Hunter Valley Thoroughbred farms over the last few months/years and have decided to do a charity walk from Scone in the Hunter Valley to Sydney to raise funds for the Rural Fire Services.

They aim to raise $20,000 to support the efforts of the RFS in battling the devastating bushfires, which have had huge damaging effects on Australia’s farms, communities, national parks, people and animals recently.

Harrison has been working in the Hunter Valley for two years now, at Kitchwin Hills Stud and Yarraman Park respectively and as a result has developed a profound connection to this great country of ours. Ed has been in Australia for a year and has been doing his farm work at Yarraman Park for the past three months. In his time here he has also developed a strong love for the country and a real desire to do anything that can be done to help those desperately in need.

To give you guys an idea of the impact the fires have had on the country. Half a billion animals have lost their lives since September, one third of the koala population have lost their lives – an animal already struggling for survival. The navy have been evacuating people from their hometowns, and now the monstrously huge task of clean up, rebuild and try to recover has begun.

Kitchwin Hills and their Everest winning graduate Yes Yes Yes sponsored Day 1 of the trek, which saw the two boys reach Singleton. Day 2 (14th of Feb) will be sponsored by Vinery’s super speedster EXCEEDANCE.

We checked in with the boys this morning and it sounds like the sleep on the side of the road was a little rough but thankfully the good view over a lake made up for it. The blisters are real this morning too but of course they’ll push on and do Exceedance proud.

The walk:
270km from Scone, the heart of the Thoroughbred industry, to Sydney.
They’re aiming to complete the walk in 7 days.
Camping along the way with whatever equipment they’ve been carrying with them.
