Comeback galloper Tullio completed another landmark week for More Than Ready (USA) at Doomben on Saturday.
The Tony Gollan-trained sprinter continued his winning run with a powerful three-length victory over stablemate Howwonderfullifeis in the Kirin Hcp (1050m). It was his fourth victory in a row since resuming from an 18-month spell on the sidelines.
“It’s great to see this horse living up to his potential and it’s a credit to all the staff for their hard work,” stable foreman Craig Cavanough said. “He got a perfect run behind the pace and Jim (Byrne) told us he always had the leaders covered.”
Tullio required knee surgery in December 2018 and was eased back to the track with a program of swimming and walking. He’s bred to keep improving being a son of More Than Ready from Reisling Stakes Gr.2 winner Military Rose (General Nediym).
Baramul Stud’s Gerry Harvey bred and sold him for $150,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions 2YO Sale.
More Than Ready sired his 1,900th individual winner last Sunday when Seckill scored first-up in Penang. His dam Skating on Ice (Bradbury’s Luck) won five sprints in Brisbane in addition to a Group 3 placing in the Gold Coast Guineas.
The Vinery legend is far and away the world’s greatest-ever winner-getter. He’s putting a space on super-sire Danehill who will forever remain on 1,623 individual winners.
More Than Ready completed a double for Victorian breeder Betty Hoare on the weekend. More Than Exceed claimed the first-leg in the Mildura Cup (1300m) on Friday with a strong front-running performance under Michael Poy.
“I had my first winner at Mildura years ago so it’s a big thrill,” trainer Phillip Stokes said. “He’s was a very fit horse going into this and I told Michael to take bad luck out of it and go forward. He’s a lovely horse.”
More Than Ready sired him from Exceedingly Regal (Exceed And Excel) who was placed in the 2010 Dubutants Stakes LR at Caulfield for Betty and her late husband John Hoare. They bred numerous stakes winners at Devon Park including Red Bomber who was a son of Vinery’s foundation stallion Red Ransom (USA).
Sun Spear was the second-leg of the More Than Ready-Devon Park double in Singapore on Sunday. He’s a younger half-brother to Red Bomber and was a $170,000 graduate from Betty’s draft to the 2016 Inglis Premier Sale.
Their dam Hanover Fist (Flying Spur) was bred by Vinery from a half-sister to Red Ransom’s Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy.
