Middlebrook Valley Lodge has topped turnover on Day 1 of the Inglis Australian Weanling with three six-figure lots including a colt by Vinery sire All Too Hard.
The Scone nursery targeted the auction with 11 foals that grossed $726,500 at Riverside Stables on Wednesday. Its All Too Hard colt from Sherbet Bomb (Snitzel) was knocked down for $100,000 to Inglis consultant Mark Dodemaide on behalf of Hong Kong owner Eden Wong.
“The good ones sell well here and our All Too Hard is a gorgeous colt,” Middlebrook’s Verna Metcalfe said. “He’s a beautiful walker with lovely temperament. I’m a huge supporter of All Too Hard. He’s a massively under-rated stallion.”
Eden Wong is Chairman of the Green Park Financial Group and his Australian graduates in Hong Kong include Elusive State (All American) who has won 8 races for earnings of HK7.69 million (AUD 1.70 million).
Trainer Tony Millard sent Elusive State to Dubai for the G2 Godolphin Mile in March but he was stranded in the Gulf when the World Cup meeting was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Wong’s All Too Hard colt was the only foal by the Vinery champion at Riverside Stables. He’s a full-brother to 3yo filly Switched who can give the pedigree another winning update in the Ranvet Hcp at Rosehill this Saturday.
All Too Hard sired a regulation city-winning double on Wednesday with Countess De Galvez (Doomben) and Sir Kalahad (Sandown Lakeside). He’s a Top 10 Australian stallion this season for individual winners (108), Stakes winners (8) and Stakes wins (14).
Vinery stands All Too Hard at an unchanged fee of $27,500 this year with Exceedance ($38,500), Star Turn ($16,500), Headwater ($13,750), Press Statement ($13,750) and Casino Prince ($5,500). All fees (inc GST) payable on live foal.
