Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup unveiled the latest Headwater 2yo winner this season when his first starter Glassout nailed the Davo’s Dash Maiden Plate (1100m) on Tuesday.

Glassout looked a thoroughly professional filly on debut and it was a straightforward victory on her home track against older horses.  She took a sit behind the speed for Tyler Schiller and followed the fence in the straight to score by a half-length from Exceed The Sky (Deep Field) and Torie’s Rose (Bull Point).

Headwater is on track for his best-ever 2yo season with 11 individual winners going into the last month of the season.  He is currently sitting fourth in the country by 2yo winners behind heavyweights Written Tycoon (private), Snitzel ($247,500), and Too Darn Hot ($110,000). His juvenile division is headed by Pure Aqua who was a Listed winner of the SAJC Without Fear Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville in April.

The Vinery resident sired 13 winners in 2019-20 to share the Australian First Season Winners premiership with Spill The Beans.  A whirlwind finish saw him sire 6 winners in the last month of that season so it’s not an impossible task this term.

Glassout (2f Headwater – High Gloss by All American) races for a syndicate managed by Brian Mullins and Brad’s wife Milissa is also a part-owner.  They bought her from Davali  Thoroughbreds (as agent) for $180,000 at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

“She did everything right yesterday and has pulled up terrific,” Widdup said on Wednesday.  “She’s a lovely filly and there’s plenty of upside going forward.  All going well, she will race again in a fortnight (July 10) over 1200m at Warwick Farm.”

Glassout sports the Strawberry Hill Stud brand and was bred at the Mount White property by former manager Bridie Sparkes.  Her dam High Gloss changed hands in 2022 and now resides at Kooringal Stud where she has a weanling colt by More Than Ready’s Group 1 Victorian Derby winner Prized Icon.

Vinery stands Headwater for a $9,900 (inc. GST) service fee with payment on a live foal.  For bookings or further information, contact Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333.
