All Too Hard completed a day of doubles for Vinery stallions with emerging galloper Reflectivity at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Team Hawkes galloper blew the start but apprentice Brock Ryan kept his cool and took a split in the straight to win the Christmas At The Gardens Hcp (1500m).  “It was my first ride for the stable and he came back underneath me and didn’t over-race,” Ryan explained.  “I had to wait for a gap to come, and when it did, he let down really well.”

Reflectivity is from Adelaide stakes performer Climatic (Fusaichi Pegasus) and second-dam Monsoon Wedding (Danehill) is a sister to Redoute’s Choice.  He was bred by Makybe owner Tony Santich and is raced by a syndicate that includes Nick Giorgetta, Rupert Legh, Neil Werrett and Vinery partners Alan Green, Greg Perry, Steve McCann and Tom Simon.

“There would have been some nerves at the start but Brock took it all in his stride,” co-trainer Michael Hawkes said.  “Reflectivity is building confidence and was a bit unlucky not to win here last start.”

Marija opened All Too Hard’s weekend account in Race 1 at Ellerslie on Saturday.  The Kiwi mare swooped from well back in the field to win second-up in the DDB Maiden (1200m).

A homebred for Sir Peter Vela, she can develop into a black-type winner having been given time to mature by trainers Lance O’Sullivan & Andrew Scott.  She was runner-up in Matamata maidens at her first two starts earlier this year and was never on the track when resuming at Avondale last month.

Marija is a younger half-sister to Group 3 Adelaide winner Rhythm To Spare (Pins).  Their dam Stanica (Zabeel) was beaten a long-head by The Mighty Lions in the 2004 Avondale Gold Cup Gr.1.

Awesome Pluck closed a successful day at Doomben for Pluck  with a three-length victory in the Sprite Hcp (1200m).  His current prep began with a placing in the $1.30 million Kosciuszko at Randwick and he did a power of work when beaten by subsequent winner Cadogan on an earlier trip to Brisbane last month.

There were no excuses on Saturday.  Settled at the back of the pack by Damien Browne, he was hooked wide in the straight a had them covered at the furlong.  Bought by Wauchope businessman Dale Miller for $68,000 from Vinery Stud at the 2016 Inglis Classic Sale, he has banked $283,025 from 3 wins in 10 starts.

Doomben’s State of Origin series winner Sofie’s Gold Class also has a link with Pluck.  Her younger half-sister by the Vinery sire will be offered as Lot 61 at the Tasmanian Magic Millions in February.

Sweet Deal (pictured) also completed a double for Casino Prince in the TAB Rewards Hcp (1400m) at Rosehill.  She had won at The Gardens last month and trainer John Thompson is considering a start in the Belle Of The Turf Stakes Gr.3 at Gosford next month.

“She’s been going super at home and Josh (Parr) was confident after riding her at trackwork on Tuesday morning,” Thompson said after watching her shoulder 60kg to victory.  “That was the definition of a mare in form!”
