CHARMOSS, a three-quarter-sister to Singapore’s former Champion Sprinter Why Be shed her maiden status at Ascot in Perth yesterday in comprehensive style.
The daughter of Mossman recorded consecutive placings at Ascot as a two-year-old including her debut.
Charmoss’ breakthrough win couldn’t have been more conclusive with the filly sprinting clear to set-up a 2-lens margin on her rivals.
The Bob McPherson trained filly was purchased at the Perth Magic Millions Yearling sale for $35,000.
All four of her dam, Charybdis’, foals have won races led of course by Success Express gelding Why Be who netted 21 races in Singapore and was named Champion 3YO (2006) and Champion Older Sprinter (2008).
Charmoss’ win capped of a great day for Mossman after another 3YO filly, Mossriver, won at Eagle Farm by 3.5-lens.
“Mossman’s 3YO crop is turning out to be quite expcetional even at this stage,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said.
“It includes stakeswiners Buffering and Hoofit as well as the stakesplaced Parriwi and Stirling Grove plus a number of good winners like Agister and Mossriver who is now being aimed at the next years’ Queensland Oaks.”
