ACE More Than Ready mare More Strawberries signalled her spring intentions with a determined first-up win in the Listed Patinack Farm Tibbie Plate (1400m) at Newcastle on Cup day this afternoon.

The Gai Waterhouse trained mare hadn’t raced since finishing an uncustomary last in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic during the autumn which followed her third placing in the Triscay and a fourth in the Surround Stakes at Warwick Farm.
More Strawberries had trialled twice leading into her Newcastle return finishing hot on the heels on the stablemate Flying Success and the dual Group 1 winner All Silent on another occasion.

Today’s triumph follows consecutive wins in the Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes both Group 2 events set aside for three-year-old fillies during the last autumn carnival period.

More Strawberries win also sought to underline the resilience of More Than Ready whose progeny have shown a willingness to train on beyond their normally lucrative two-year-old season.

“More Strawberries was an unlucky third in the Golden Slipper at two as a maiden – she missed the kick and stormed home, it’s great to see her still winning Stakes race as an older horse,” Vinery’s Adam White said.
