Top ten Australian Sire’s More Than Ready, Testa Rossa and Mossman are destined to play a role in the outcome of the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in Brisbane tomorrow.
All three Vinery stallions are represented in the $1m feature beginning with the Robert Heathcote trained Buffering who is looking to go one better than his last start second in the Doomben 10,000.
The son of Mossman has been placed in five Group 1 races, three of those behind champion mare Black Caviar.
“Buffering had to do a little bit of work in the 10,000, he had that pest Adebisi there and Sea Siren just got the beautiful covered run the entire way and didn’t have to spend a penny,” Heathcote told Sportsman.
“The horse hadn’t run for 24 days and he didn’t have a saddle on him for nine of those days.
“You go from 1200m to 1350m so you have to assume the horse will derive benefit from the run.”
Another of the Queensland gallopers with claims is More Than Ready son Phelan Ready.
While the Sunshine Coast housed gelding hasn’t won since taking out the Golden Slipper in 2009, he has managed to run some tremendous races since including a fourth in the Newmarket Handicap and fifth in the Doomben 10,000 at his most recent appearance.
“I’m quietly confident,” trainer Jason McLachlan.
“It was a super run in the 10,000 and he drops 5.5kg and he is a horse that races really well when he gets the weight advantage.”
Meanwhile, No one could have missed the effort of Victorian visitor Sistine Angel in the Doomben 10,000 – she made up plenty of ground from the rear f the field to finish 4-lens from the winner, Sea Siren.
