More Than Ready spanned the globe on Saturday with his 197th Stakes winner at Randwick before British-bred mare Uni notched another Group 1 in Kentucky.

Global Quest landed a second Breeders’ Plate Gr.3 for the Vinery legend after surging through a gap in the straight for James McDonald.  He was immediately installed a $17 favourite for the Golden Slipper Stakes Gr.1 in March.

Champion 2yo Sebring completed the Breeders’ Plate – Golden Slipper double for More Than Ready in 2008.

Global Quest (2c More Than Ready – Global Dream by Fastnet Rock) is a colt going places according to ‘J Mac’ after a very professional performance on debut.  “He’s race-savvy, jumps extremely well, takes a position, relaxes and has got a good sight about him, too.”

Trainer Chris Waller wasn’t surprised with the authoritative, one-length victory.  “Pre-race, he was coping well and showing all the right signs.  We will sit down with the team and work out a path towards the Golden Slipper.”

There are several options ahead including the $1 million Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill on November 9.  He’s also eligible for the $2 million Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11.

Global Quest races for Aquis Farm and Highgrove Stud’s Ron Gilbert after making $340,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.  His dam Global Dream (Fastnet Rock) was an Eagle Farm Group 2 placegetter for Gilbert.

More Than Ready’s 197 individual Stakes winners have won a total of 387 Stakes races – the latest, a Group 1 no less, courtesy of Uni (GB) in the First Lady Stakes (1600m) at Keeneland on Saturday.

Uni capitalized on a hot pace to clock a course-record 1:32.87s while earning an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf Gr.1 at Santa Anita on November 2.

Winning jockey Joel Rosario had to alter his pre-race plans when heavily-favoured More Than Ready mare Rushing Fall settled back in the pack.  “I was looking to follow her and get into a good spot but she didn’t show that customary speed.  Uni came with a nice run anyway.  Like she always does.

The two-length victory improved her record to 9 wins in 17 starts for earnings over $1.24 million.  “She’s unbelievable,” Rosario added.  “She has a long stride and just keeps coming and coming.”

Bred by Haras D’Etreham, Uni won the Prix Matchem LR at Maisons-Laffitte before joining Chad Brown’s USA stable.  She claimed her initial Group 1 in the 2018 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar for a syndicate that includes Robert LaPenta, Michael Dubb, Sol Kumin & Michael Caruso.

More Than Ready is standing at Vinery for a service fee of $55,000 (inc GST).
