BIG Brown added a new stakes-horse to the tally in the USA over the weekend when promising 2yo colt Tiger Bourbon finished second in the Laurel Futurity Stakes.

Bred in Florida, Tiger Bourbon was having only his third start in Saturday’s feature having won on debut at Belmont then finishing fourth in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga.

All of Tiger Bourbon’s three runs so far have been in turf which was a favoured surface of his sire given that he won both times on grass including that dazzling 11 3/4-lens debut win at Monmouth.

Big Brown has so far sired a total of 9 stakes-horses including stakeswinners Bella Castani, Brown Almighty, Shades of Sugar and the US$1.3m sale topper and Ballydoyle’s classic aspirant Darwin.
