UNRACED two-year-old Charlie Royale has emerged as the latest instalment of the thriving partnership of trio Gerald Ryan, Triple Crown Syndications and the Vinery stallion Myboycharlie.
Charlie Royale left a lasting impression at last Tuesday morning’s Rosehill barrier trials winning his 898m heat as Triple Crown’s co-founder Chris Ward explained.
“He flew the gates but Tommy (Berry) had the instructions to try and take him back and let him just travel comfortably so he took him back to the back of the field and then in the straight he really quickened up well and showed a good turn of foot and ended up winning the trial well.
“We haven’t marked anything specific as yet, we’ll get through the next trial and then we’ll start pinpointing something from there.”
Charlie Royale was bought by Triple Crown Syndications for $90,000 out of Vinery’s 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale draft.
“He’s another son of Myboycharlie who’s done a good job for us with Charlie Boy and Peggy Jean – and we’ve got a yearling that we picked up from the Classic Sale that we are syndicating now and really rate so he’s been a good stallion to us,” Ward said.
“Charlie Royale was good value at $90,000, Charlie Boy was $85,000 and Peggy Jean was $46,000 so they are horses that, at the moment, you can get them at really good value and they run well, hopefully they will keep continuing doing so.”
Peggy Jean shapes as Triple Crown’s autumn big gun having finished second to Blue Diamond hopeful Nayeli (by More Than Ready) on debut before defeating Boomwaa to take out the rich Inglis Classic at only her second race start.
“Peggy Jean has gone out to Limitless Lodge where she goes on the walker water during the morning and out in the paddock during the day and boxed at night,” Ward said.
“She’s doing that for a couple of weeks then she’ll come back into Gerald’s and we’ll aim to kick her off in the Magic Night Stakes and then look to the Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes after that because we really think that she is a filly that will go over that little bit more ground and that’s where you’ll probably see her at her best.”
Group 2 winner Charlie Boy meanwhile is currently in the paddock recovering from an injury that forced him to miss the $1m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas in January.
“He’s still not 100 percent so we going to give him a bit more time to make sure everything is 100 percent before we put him back into work,” said Ward.
