Stephen Hutchinson trained Duble Bolt was able to record an easy 1.8-lens win in today’s Lambey’s Bar & Restaurant Handicap (1200m) at Geelong despite the Dubleo runner having to lump a 59kgs steadier in the big field.
A son of Vinery stallion Dubleo, today’s win follows his maiden victory at Wangarratta back in April which was soon followed by an unlucky 0.9-len third at Caulfield.
The Mornington trained Duble Bolt is one of 25 winners sired by Dubleo thus far. From only 64 first crop foals, now 3yo’s, Dubleo has already sired his first Stakes Winner with first crop filly Dubleanny.
Duble Bolt’s dam, Aragonce, was a handy race mare whose career highlight came in the Listed SAJC KPMG Stakes (1000m) in Adelaide.
Her other foals include city winners Cartoon Character (by More Than Ready) and Reventon (by Testa Rossa) who was placed fourth in the SAJC Sires Produce Stakes in Adelaide.
Aragonce has a 2009 filly by classic winner Benicio and is currently in foal to Top Ten Australian sire Testa Rossa.
Duble Bolt is one of several winners from the emerging Mornington stable of Kiwi Stephen Hutchinson who has always loved the racing in Australia and late last year decided to pursue his dream of training winners here. Whilst new to Victorian racing, Stephen has been involved with horses most of his working life and obviously has an eye for a good horse. Duble Bolt has certainly impressed since entering the stable.
“He is a lovely horse, very honest and genuine and always put in 150%” Hutchinson said after the win, “This seems typical of the Dubleo’s, we’d love a stable full of them!”
As a former jockey and having worked for Peter Chapple-Hyam and Ted Voute in England, Stephen has seen many good horses in his time and is well placed at Mornington to get the best out of Duble Bolt.
