MELBOURNE – TESTA Rossa mare Flying Tessie will attempt to become her sires’ 25th stakeswinner when she lines-up in the MRC Summoned Stakes at Sandown later this month.
The Warrnambool trained mare staged a stunning near last-to-first win in the last race on Cup Day to set-up a 2.5L margin on the rest.
“When we brought her in this preparation, we said the two races we would target were going to be Melbourne Cup day and the Summoned Stakes on Sandown Cup day,” trainer Matthew Williams said.
“She’s won at Sandown over the mile and she loves that big, long, uphill straight.”
Williams purchased Flying Tessie at the Melbourne Premier Yearling sale for $50,000.
Flying Tessie’s win was just rewards for her sire following unlucky Stakes placings from Testa Rossa fillies, Ortensia and Rose Syrah in the Listed Herald Sun Stakes earlier in the day.
