Trainer Barry Campbell says he will give consideration to aiming Admiral (Mossman-Reunification, by West Quest) at the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap after his easy win in the weight-for-age Ubet.com Stakes (1200m) at Launceston last night.

The 4YO gelding proved far too classy for his rivals, bounding clear to score by 2.5-lengths in the $50,000 event. Admiral will now head to the Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes at Hobart before returning to Launceston to attempt to defend his title in the Listed George Adams Plate.

“He actually wasn’t out of a canter tonight. He’s a really good horse,” Campbell said, “It is a huge task to win dropping back from 1600m to 1200m against top class”.

When asked if the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap during the Queensland winter carnival was a possibility, Campbell said: “Yes, but we have to get through the carnival here first and then sit down and talk about what is best for the horse.”

Admiral took his record to 12 wins from 17 starts for over $497,000 in prize money.
