TESTA Rossa filly Sistine Angel has been promoted to the second line of betting behind Sydney star More Strawberries to win the Group One MRC 1000 Guineas (1600m) after her victory in yesterday’s Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington.

A recent winner of the Group 3 McNeil Stakes, the Andrew Noblet-trained chestnut drew barrier 15 in the 16 horse field and was spotting the leaders an impossible start at the 800m.

Never closer than three off the fence, jockey Craig Williams took Sistine Angel to the outside in the stretch as she closed the gap on her rivals to win the Group 2 by a narrow by convincing margin.

”She had bad luck her whole first prep(aration). This time it’s been the complete opposite,” Noblet said.

Noblet, who bought the filly in Perth for $60,000, said his confidence was boosted by Sistine Angel’s track gallop with Majestic Music, a Group-class older mare, on Tuesday.

”She went super. When the marble (18) dropped on Thursday, I wasn’t that confident but she makes her own luck a little bit. She’s nice and versatile, a nice little filly,” he said.

Sistine Angel is one of 29 individual stakeswinners sired by Testa Rossa and one of several from the current crop of three years that represent the first Vinery produce by the stallion.  A consistent top ten stalion in recent years, Testa Rossa has proven to be one of the countries best value stallion’s as he is the only Top Ten stallion from last season to remain under $50k.

Bred by Warren Gellard of Kalgoolie, Sistine Angel is one of two winners from two runners for the unraced Peintre Celebre mare, Famous Painter.

Famous Painter is a half sister to the Stakes Winners Gallopini and Land Speed Record and has returned to Vinery Stallion’s to produce a yearling by promising young sire Excites and a foal by Myboycharlie.  The mare will return to Testa Rossa this season.
