THOSE who suggested that Benicio’s progeny would take it up a level when they turned three are proving to be more and more vindicated as the new 2010/11 season unfolds.

Benicio’s latest 3YO winner came at Hobart on Sunday when Charlie Coggin’s bright filly Seeking Chi scored a popular first-up win over the 1000m.

Seeking Chi started $2.35f off the back of two trials wins by 4-lens and 4.5-lens in the lead-up to her 3yo return.

The filly is the fourth 3YO winner for Benicio so far this season and joins the likes of Warwick Farm and Kensington winner Private Label as well as Larry’s Ready, a 6-lens winner of his maiden and the impressive Kris Lees-trained White Lights.

“Benicio produced many 2yo winners with his first crop last year but being a Derby winner we always suspected they may take some time and appreciate getting over further than the 2yo sprint races and it is appears to be what is happening.” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said.

Seeking Chi had shown plenty of promise as a 2yo placing at two of her three starts over 1000m and 1100m and appears to have come back in fine order for the start of her 3yo preparation.
