A COLT by global sire More Than Ready sold for top price on the opening day of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale at Newmarket in the UK for 320,000 guineas (A$501,161).

The colt was bought by leading agent Anthony Stroud and is a from a full sister to multiple US Graded stakeswinner Spring Awakening who was also Grade 1 placed.

The family also includes Belmont Stakes winner and sire Editor’s Note as well as the Grade 1 winner Hold That Tiger who stood in Australia for a brief time.

“He is a very nice horse, by a top stallion, and on our timings did one of the fastest breezes, if not the fastest,” Stroud said of his new purchase.

“He stays in England, but a trainer has not yet been decided.”

The colt’s massive price tag provided a healthy return to vendor John Egan (Friarstown Bloodstock) who first purchased the Kentucky bred colt for $90,000 from the consignment of Longford Farm, agent for Michael Barnett’s Blackburn Farm, at the 2012 Keeneland September yearling sale.

More Than Ready is the sire of current Kentucky Derby pre-post favourite, Verrazano, who is unbeaten in four starts including the Wood Memorial Stakes at his most recent appearance.
