EXCITES gelding Red Excitement edged closer to a quarter of a million dollar in earnings after he swept past his rivals to land the prize in today’s ATC St George Motor Boat Club Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

The Gerald Ryan trained 3YO unleashed a withering burst of acceleration down the middle of the track to collar Single Style inside the final stages to post a widening 0.5-lens win.

The effort was a welcome redress of his Scone Guineas failure three weeks prior, but there were excuses according to assistant trainer Blake Ryan.

“Scone was ridiculous the speed they went in the race because of the way the track was playing and he’s a horse that can pull fairly hard,” he said.

“The instructions (today) were, it doesn’t matter if you’re three-deep, just get cover and get him to relax and we thought it he’d finish off and it’s good to see.”

Red Excitement has a rich Vinery flavour about him being from a Red Ransom mare that also happens to be a grand-daughter of high class filly/mare Bold Promise (dam of Merlene).

Red Excitement is part owned by popular industry figures Glenn and Viive Williams who purchased the horse for $32,500 at the 2011 Inglis Yearling Sale.

The gelding began life with Neville Layt at Canberra before relocating to Ryan’s Rosehill base after his summer break.

“He’s not a bad horse, he’s only had this prep with us and he’s going the right way,” Blake Ryan said.
