It has been a long time in the making and not without its drama, but classy galloper Snow Alert has won his first stakes race.

The Chris Waller trained gelding came with a well times run to reach the lead in the final stages of today’s Listed Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury on their once a year stand-alone program.

”Everything went to plan to the turn and I said to Daniel just to come wide because I thought he would struggle in the going with the track downgrade,” Waller said.

”Obviously the track is not as bad as I thought because he’s hopeless in shifty ground.

”He got through it well and put his neck out at the right time.

”I think it was credit to Daniel’s ride, the timing with a horse like him was perfect.”

Snow Alert becomes the 96th individual stakeswinner for his sire Red Ransom who is closing in on a rare feat of 100 stakeswinners which will see him join immortals such as Danehill, Northern Dancer, Mr Prospector, Sadler’s Wells, Storm Cat, Sunday Silence and only a handful others.
