RED Ransom needs only a handful more stakes winners to join immortals Northern Dancer, Storm Cat, Mr Prospector, Danehill and others as stallions who have sired 100 individual stakeswinners.

Red Ransom’s 95th stakeswinner came in New Zealand on Saturday when Champagne Ransom won the Dunedin Guineas (Listed) at Wingatui.
The win was his second in only five career starts for Riccarton trainer Shane Kennedy.

Champagne Ransom’s triumph was overshadowed somewhat by Typhoon Tracy’s win in the Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

The Peter Moody-trained mare took her tally to 8 wins from 11 starts, this one her third Group One win – her first against males.

Moody is keeping his options with the mare committing only to the $700,000 Group One Futurity Stakes run at Caulfield on February 14,
