Less than 24 hours after siring a landmark 150th stakes winner, More Than Ready made it 151 when Tammy the Torpedo took the LR Tropical Park Oaks (1700m) at Gulfstream Park.

More Than Ready gelding Centre Pivot was given a perfect ride by Blake Shinn in the LR Bernborough Hcp (1615m) at Doomben on Saturday in contrast to his Florida counterpart who withstood a wide trip under Joel Rosario.

The Vinery champion has sired 151 stakes winners spread among 13 different countries headed by USA (67) and Australia (60).

Tammy the Torpedo was hung out to dry four wide from an outside gate and was never able to find cover at Gulfstream Park. She made an early move to take over from front-runner Celestine and responded willingly to score by a neck.

Trakus data estimated she covered an additional 71 feet compared to the runner-up. “She had a really challenging trip – I really wasn’t happy at all,” trainer Chad Brown said. “But somehow she still found a way to win. It was an impressive effort.”

Tammy the Torpedo had won on debut in a Saratoga juvenile in August last year and followed up with a third and seventh behind her superstar stablemate Lady Eli in the G3 Miss Grillo Stakes and G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Resuming in October after almost a year on the sidelines, she won a Belmont allowance and looked unlucky last time out in the G2 Mrs Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Tammy the Torpedo sold for $100,000 as a Keeneland yearling in September 2013 before changing hands again for $225,000 at the Ocala 2YO Sale in April 2014. Her dam Search and Seizure (War Chant) is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Criminologist and had foaled earlier winners by More Than Ready and Henrythenavigator.

Search and Seizure was bred back to More Than Ready’s Group 1 winner Verrazano earlier this year.
