TESTA Rossa gelding Meshmaker has struck a rich vein of form that has seen the 3YO win two of his past three starts including yesterday’s SAC Breaka Chocolate Handicap (1800m) by a combined margin of 7.1-lens.

The Mark Kavanagh trained galloper did his early racing in Sydney under the care of Chris Waller who trains a number of horses for Meshmaker’s owner (David Fuller) most notably the triple G1 winner, Metal Bender.

The change of environment has clearly suited Meshmaker who is rapidly becoming one of the state’s emerging 3YO stayers.

“I am not sure what Mark has planned for the horse but I would imagine that he would be at least having a look at some of the middle distance and staying races for the 3YO’s over there during the carnival,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan.
“Maybe even the SAJC Derby could be on the radar because it takes a good 3YO to carry a big weight and beat the older horses as easily as Meshmaker did yesterday.”
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, favourite backers were right on the money with More Than Ready gelding Bertucci who powered away to win the K Grantham’s 30th Birthday (1600m) by 1.8-lens.
