Tony McEvoy’s put the finishing touches on a record-breaking winning run at Balaklava when Domination streeted his rivals in a short-course maiden on Wednesday.
Domination was McEvoy’s 13th winner in a row at the track and he predicted bright future for the lightly-raced 3yo by All Too Hard who won by five lengths. “We’ve always believed he had the ability but he’s had issues along the way. I really think he’s a Melbourne Saturday quality galloper.
“He’s always shown us plenty of talent so it’s been frustrating,” McEvoy added. “I’ve asked the owners to hang in there and they’ve been patient. The horse will feel pretty good about himself now and hopefully he can go to the next level.”
Domination was born, raised and sold by Vinery and he was bred by long-time Vinery employee Mr John Tiyce who owns his dam Attunga Rose.
Vinery stallion All Too Hard sired him from Attunga Rose (Springsteen), an unraced half-sister to South African-based stars Fighting Warrior (G1 Golden Horseshoe) and Royal Zulu Warrior (G2 Charity Mile). She’s also the dam of Turffontein winner Knysa Rose (Pluck) and foaled another All Too Hard colt last November.
Winning jockey Jamie Kah had her hands full with Domination before the start at Balaklava but he jumped cleanly before spacing them in the straight. “He’s got a bit of attitude but most of the good ones do. He’s a very nice horse and could have won by a bigger margin because he was waiting for the others at the finish.”
All Too Hard is also dominating the Australian second-season sires premiership with 72 individual winners of 109 races for over $4.09 million in prizemoney. He stands at Vinery for a $33,000 service fee.
