All Too Hard progression this season has been astronomical so it was appropriate his regally-bred filly Progression should win her maiden at Wyong on Sunday.

The Vinery Stud star has sired the winners of 21 races this season stretching his lead on the Australian second-season table over Your Song (13) and Pierro (12).

Progression is the third All Too Hard winner for Newcastle trainer Kris Lees following Waimea Bay and Sasso Corbaro.  After missing the kick, she settled kindly for Glynn Schofield before reeling in the leaders under her own steam in the straight.  It was just her second start after finishing runner up on debut.

“She powered home and really hit the line,” stable foreman Cameron Swan said.  “Kris will probably give her a break now and she will come back much better next prep.”

Progression is a daughter of Makybe mare Headway (Charge Forward).  The Wyong win comes a week before the anniversary of her dam’s exhilarating Group 1 victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington in 2009.

Makybe catalogued and sold the All Too Hard filly for $280,000 as a yearling at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.  Belmont Bloodstock (FBAA) agent Damon Gabbedy bought her on behalf of a syndicate that includes Vinery, Kia Ora Stud, Neil Werrett and Steve McCann.
