Mick Kent had already targeted All Too Hard before he paid $140,000 for a filly by the Vinery sire at Oaklands on Wednesday.
The Group 1 winning trainer has an All Too Hard 3yo colt named See It Thru and a 2yo filly from Mirjulisa Lass on the books at Cranbourne.
Kent wasn’t the only prospective buyer bidding for the All Too Hard – Kalamata filly at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale in Melbourne. She is a half-sister to SA Sires’ Produce Stakes-Gr.2 winner Stirling Grove (Mossman) and was popular after breezing 200m in a slick 10.32s at Canterbury.
“$140,000 was more than I wanted to spend but I like this filly and I like All Too Hard,” Kent said. “He’s for a stable client and now I will talk him into paying the extras.
“She would have made that much as a yearling and showed she can gallop at Canterbury.”
Kent paid $225,000 for See It Thru at the 2016 Gold Coast Magic Millions on behalf of a partnership headed by All Too Hard’s breeder Rick Jamieson. “I’ve been very happy with his progress and have given him time to develop – like a lot of the All Too Hards.”
The All Too Hard – Mirjulisa Lass filly is a homebred for Jamieson. Her dam was a Group 1 winner of the 2011 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill and she foaled an All Too Hard colt in August.
All Too Hard’s latest six-figure sale in Melbourne came shortly after his filly Za Zi Ba made it 3 wins from her last 5 starts with another front-running victory at Canterbury on Wednesday. She had won at Kembla and Wyong before coming to town for a syndicate that includes Neil Werrett, Max Whitby, Damion Flower, Bruce Mathieson and Rick Smith.
