Former England cricketer Dominic Cork was renowned for his tenacity and fight and they’re two traits his promising Myboycharlie colt Soul Instinct has in spades.

Soul Instinct is a son of Vinery shuttler Myboycharlie and he is entered for two rich sales-related races coming up at York and Doncaster

Soul Instinct (2c Myboycharlie – However by Hector Protector) gave Cork and his wife Donna their first success as owners with a front-running victory at Carlisle on July 28.  His rivals were under the pump from the outset and apprentice Kevin Stott put the race to bed at the furlong.

“Kevin was pleased and said he wasn’t doing much in front,” trainer Kevin Ryan said.  “And after the race, there wasn’t a blow on him showing he did win with a little in hand.

“There are some big sales races around the corner and we may take the chance to plunder a huge pot.”

The Doncaster Premier Yearling Stakes at York on August 22 and the Weatherbys 2YO Stakes at Doncaster on September 12 are on the radar.  Both races carry prizemoney of 300,000 pounds (AUD 509,100).

Ryan has the Midas Touch with Doncaster graduates – he has won the last two editions of the DBS Stakes with Hototo (Sleeping Indian) and Bogart (Bahamian Bounty).

Soul Instinct cost 30,000 pounds at the Doncaster yearling sale in August 2012 – a year after Cork retired following 21 seasons of first-class cricket.  His career peaked in 1996 when he was chosen as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

Myboycharlie (Danetime) gave Soul Instinct’s bottom line a boost.  The colt’s nearest stakes winner on his dam’s side goes back three generations to 1983 French Oaks winner Northern Trick (Northern Dancer).

Myboycharlie’s first Australian two year-olds were headed by city winners Charlie Boy (Rosehill), Dowdstown Charlie (Randwick) and Charles in Charge (Sandown).  Charlie Boy also earned black-type in the G2 Silver Slipper as did his Kiwi based Gr.2 placegetter Charlestown in NZ.

Trainers like Mick Price went back for more when 4 of his second crop averaged $75,000 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale earlier this year.  And the buyer list at the Gold Coast Magic Millions included Gai Waterhouse and Duncan Ramage among the 8 lots that averaged over $85,000.

Myboycharlie was a 2YO Group 1 winner of the Prix Morny at Deauville and Vinery stands him for a $16,500 (inc gst) service fee.
