Vinery sire More Than Ready produced another two year-old with Group 1 potential when Feast For Eyes cruised home at Canterbury on Wednesday.
He stretched out to 1550m like a horse coming good at just the right time for a race like the G1 J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) at Doomben on June 6. “That was a good win and this race has been a guide to the J J Atkins before,” trainer ChrisWaller said. “We will have a think about it — it’s a big step for Feast For Eyes and we’ve got to look after him for next season.”
His More Than Ready stablemate So Willie was disappointed for runs in the straight when second at Randwick last weekend and will back up at Rosehill this Saturday. If successful, he will be the 10th individual juvenile winner by the Vinery champion in Australia this season.
More Than Ready sired the first Group 1 winner among his current crop of two year-olds when South African filly Entisaar claimed the Allan Robertson Championship (1200m) last Saturday. Instead of training on for the Greyville carnival or heading overseas, trainer Mike De Kock has announced the Aussie bred filly will go for a well-deserved break until next season.
De Kock will unveil another More Than Ready juvenile filly this Saturday when Tracy’s Legacy makes her debut in Race 3 at Turffontein. A $350,000 graduate from the 2014 Inglis Easter Sale, she is raced by leading owner Marcus Jooste and her dam Tracy’s Choice (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy.
Vinery sire Myboycharlie weighed in with a two year-old debut winner of his own on Wednesday thanks to Young George at Belmont.
Young George is the second foal of Doomben juvenile winner Manhattan Angel (Statue Of Liberty) and cost $50,000 at last year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions. “I only sold the last share in him two months ago,” rookie trainer Nick Cox said. “He’s not a big horse but he’s well put together.”
Myboycharlie filly Blueberry Hill is a most consistent juvenile and she came within a short-neck of winning the G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Doomben on Saturday. It followed a Group 2 win in the BRC Champagne Stakes on May 9.
She has finished one-two in all five starts and also holds a Group 1 nomination for the J J Atkins Stakes on June 6.
Forgotten Myboycharlie filly Peggy Jean returns to action for new trainers Peter & Paul Snowden in the LR Queensland Day Stakes at Doomben on Saturday. She won the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes last year but was unplaced in six subsequent starts before a recent stable transfer.
