Admiral has been named Champion Tasmanian 3YO for 2014-15.

The son of Vinery sire Mossman raced 6 times last season for wins against his own age group in the Tasmanian 3YO Trophy and LR Tasmanian Guineas.  He also defeated The Cleaner at weight-for-age in the LR George Adams Plate.

The Cleaner was named Tasmanian Horse of the Year at the annual awards held at Country Club Casino in Launceston on Friday evening.

Admiral (Mossman – Reunification by West Quest) crossed Bass Strait after the George Adams to finish a creditable fifth to Wandjina in the G1 Australian Guineas at Flemington.

The Barry Campbell trained gelding was Champion Tasmania 2YO in 2013-14 after victories in the LR Gold Sovereign Stakes, LR Elwick Stakes, Autumn 2YO Classic and Tasmanian Sires’ Produce Stakes.

Admiral has won 9 of his 13 starts and earned $374,550 for owners Bruno Calabro, Ron and Trudy Schwanke and Denise Martin of Star Thoroughbreds.

In Queensland, Mossman’s Group 1 galloper Buffering is odds-on to collect that State’s Horse of the Year award for a record fourth time.  The champion sprinter was the only Queensland horse to win a Group 1 event last season – he defeated Lankan Rupee in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley in October.

Mossman (Success Express) will stand for a $27,500 (inc GST) fee at Vinery this year.
