THE final day of the 2014 Flemington carnival provided to be all out triumph for Vinery stallion Mossman whose sons Buffering and Dothraki stole the limelight with their respective feature wins.

Reigning dual Queensland Horse of the Year Buffering was front and centre on the big stage bagging his second Group 1 win in as many starts leading throughout (again) to take out the $1m VRC Sprint Classic (1200m).

Buffering (6g Mossman – Action Annie by Anabaa) was a clear leader when the field linked up with the course proper at headquarters.  Shamexpress issued a late challenge but the Queenslander confirmed his status as Australia’s champion sprinter with a three-quarter length victory over the reigning G1 Newmarket winner.

“There’s no Black Caviar, no Hay List. But there’s a Buffering,” said Heathcote.
Buffering had run 10 Group One placings before winning for the first time at the top level in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.
But Heathcote agreed that win had been less than dominant.
“There were probably a few unanswered questions after the Manikato … a thought that he might have been a little bit lucky,” Heathcote said.
“But there was no luck in that today. That was pure guts, determination and ability.”

Buffering was a $22,000 buy at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS Sale and has now won 14 times in 37 starts for over $3.82 million in prizemoney.  He’s been a Mossman’s flag-bearer since winning on debut at Doomben in March 2010.

The Manikato – Sprint Classic double also topped and tailed a stakes-winning streak for his sire Mossman.  In the last week, the Vinery stallion had also sired black-type winners Royal Zulu Warrior (G2 Emperors Palace Mile), Plucky Belle (G3 Lavazza Short Black) and Dothraki (LR Hilton Hotels Stakes).

Earlier on striking chestnut 3YO Dothraki was rewarded for a life-long consistency in major races with a deserved win in the Listed ATC Hilton Hotel & Resorts Handicap (1400m) against a quality field.
It was Dothraki’s first stakeswin to go with stakes-placings in the Group 2 ATC Pago Pago Stakes, Group 3 Skyline Stakes and Listed Sir Brian Crowley Stakes.
“I’ve always had a huge wrap on him. He’s probably the only horse in the stable that can get anywhere near Snitzerland,” winning trainer Gerald Ryan said.
”He’s just taken a while to put it together.”

Dothraki is the 25th stakeswinner sired by Mossman and follows hot on the heels of number 24, Plucky Belle, who stormed past class mare Arinosa to win the Group 3 VRC Lavazza Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day.

Dothraki wears the familiar red and white ensign of the Ward brothers Michael and Chris’s Triple Crown Syndications who bought the colt’s Big Brown half brother for $150,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.
The Ward’s and Ryan are also the team behind Charlie Boy (by Myboycharlie) who took out the Group 2 VRC Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington at the beginning of the spring carnival.
