Mossman filly Mossfun has received belated recognition as co-winner of the NSW 2YO of the Year award following a scoring error made by the NSW Racehorse Owners Association.

Accordingly, the 2013-14 NSW 2YO of the Year is shared between the Golden Slipper winner Mossfun and Darley filly Earthquake.  In a statement released on Wednesday, the NSW ROA confirmed that a race victory had not been awarded to Mossfun in calculations for the award.

The error came about when NSW ROA did not count Mossfun’s debut victory in the $250,000 Inglis Nursery at Randwick last December.  The Team Hawkes filly went on to further wins in the G3 Widden Stakes, G2 Silver Slipper and G1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

The daughter of Vinery sire Mossman was due to clash with Earthquake whom she beat in the Golden Slipper in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes Randwick on August 23, however, she has been sidelined with a virus.

“It’s a shame but better it’s happened now than in September,” trainer John Hawkes said this week.  “We will give her the time to get over it and then look towards the Melbourne spring carnival.”

The Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 1 is a likely target for Mossfun.
