MORE THAN READY

Leading Freshman Sire and twice Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds, More Than Ready is firmly established as Australia’s outstanding cross for mares descending from Danzig, and particularly Danehill and his sons.

His Champion Two-Year-Old, Sebring, is one of two stakes winners for More Than Ready out of mares by Flying Spur (by Danehill), and his group one winners Benicio and Perfectly Ready are out of mares by Danehill himself. From this line he also has stakes winners out of mares by Danzig, Pine Bluff, Langfuhr (Magic Millions heroine Augusta Proud) and Polish Numbers, but virtually any Danzig line mare appeals here. More Than Ready’s  Golden Slipper and Magic Millions winner, Phelan Ready, is from another branch of the Northern Dancer line, that of Sadler’s Wells (out of a mare by Blevic, a son of Scenic). Other branches of Northern Dancer that have done well for More Than Ready include El Gran Senor and his brother Try My Best (through Last Tycoon), Storm Cat (we particularly like mares by Giant’s Causeway), and Lyphard.

More Than Ready has already sired at least 12 stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares. This includes the group one winning Carry On Cutie (dam by Conquistarose, a son of Conquistador Cielo). Other branches of the Mr. Prospector line to provide stakes winners for More Than Ready include Gulch (sire of Thunder Gulch); Gone West (available through Elusive Quality, Zafonic – the broodmare sire of More Than Ready grade one performer Traffic Guard – Xaar and Mr. Greeley); Fappiano (including through Unbridled’s Song – broodmare sire of his graded winner Colour – and Defensive Play); Miswaki (sire of Umatilla); Forty Niner (sire of Distorted Humor) and Crafty Prospector. Other sources that could work well are Seeking the Gold (sire of Secret Savings and Lujain), Fusaichi Pegasus and BellottoMr. Prospector is a Raise a Native line horse, and from the Majestic Light branch of the Raise a Native line is More Than Ready’s group winner La Chunga (out of a mare by Wavering Monarch, also sire of the second dam of his graded winner Ready’s Image) and we would also recommend mares by Catrail, a stallion who has Majestic Light as his broodmare sire.

More Than Ready has sired stakes winners out of mares from several different branches of the Nasrullah line. He has two stakes winners, one graded from mares from the Naskra line. From the Bold Ruler line he has stakes winners out of mares descending from Seattle Slew and Raja Baba. From the Blushing Groom line, he has a stakes winner out of a mare by Blushing John, and from the Grey Sovereign branch through Caro, he has a stakes winner out of a mare by Cozzene.

Other broodmare sire lines to produce the dams of More Than Ready stakes winners include Star Kingdom, through Marscay , Canny Lad and Full and By (by Zephyr Bay, a son of Biscay); Sir Gaylord, through Lord Avie, and through the Sir Ivor line horses Sir Tristram (he has a stakes winner out of a mare by Kaapstad) and Myocard; Damascus (out of a mare by Time For A Change, a horse bred on similar lines to Gilded Time), Century (out of a mare by Centro); Snippets (by Lunchtime); and Warning (by Known Fact, a son of In Reality).

When bred back to mares from his own Halo male line, Ready’s Image has sired grade one winner More Joyous out of a daughter of Sunday Silence, and stakes winner Whipasnapa out of a daughter of Don’t Say Halo. We should also note that More Than Ready is out of a mare with very strong line breeding to the La Troienne family, and has explosive potential if bred back to horses carrying more of this strain. A prime source is Buckpasser, who already appears in the dams of at least eight stakes winners by More Than Ready.
