Global stallion More Than Ready‘s Southern Hemisphere success is being mirrored in the Northern Hemisphere with undefeated Ready For Romance becoming the latest of 15 stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere this season.

The dark brown filly remained undefeated in three starts while making her stakes debut in Saturday’s $125,000 Ontario Damsel S. at Woodbine.

The Sam-Son Farms homebred daughter by More Than Ready is the 145th lifetime stakes winner for her sire. That puts More Than Ready second only to Giant’s Causeway (on 155) for highest number of stakes winners for all sires standing in North America.

Ready For Romance jumped well and led the whole way, setting splits of: 23.60 and: 47.05. Dixie Twist was a close second, with Season Ticket, who was running last early, making a big move in the stretch to run third. Against two challengers on the straight, Ready For Romance had enough left to win by a head. She covered the mile in 1:34.73 over a ‘firm’ turf.

Winning jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva was very pleased with the effort of the 3yo filly.

“She’s a very nice horse,” said Rosa da Silva. “Malcolm (trainer Malcolm Pierce) told me to take it simple and ease her out as best I can. She was very relaxed. When we turned for home, I had some horse and when the other horse came (Season Ticket), she’s a nice horse too, but she (Ready For Romance) dug in hard and ran beautifully.”

“It’s great when you have one that does everything you ask. It’s wonderful that she’s performed so well and we’re very excited about her,” said Michael Balaz on behalf of Sam-Son Farms. “It’s lovely when the fillies come out and race like this, especially with our breeding program.”

Ready for Romance banked $90,000 in victory, upping her overall take to $138,650 for her three wins. The filly’s dam, Strange Romance, is a sister to Gr.3 winners High Button Shoes and Matt’s Broken Vow.
