Trainer Scott Brunton was searching for superlatives after Life On The Wire won the Vamos Stakes Gr.3 in Launceston on Sunday.

Starting a $2.20 favourite, the Pluck (USA) mare maintained her unbeaten run this campaign with a front-running, two-length victory over stablemate Step The Pedal.  “She is the best mare I’ve trained since Lady Lynette,” Brunton claimed as Craig Newitt brought the winner back to scale.  “She’s done some amazing things but, given the circumstances, this must rate as her most impressive performance.”

Following victories in Launceston (2) and Sandown (2), Life On The Wire was a last-minute scratching from the Bow Mistress Stakes Gr.3 on February 9 after sustaining a fetlock injury on the way to the races.  “This was the most important assignment of her career and the owners were overwhelmingly in favour of running her today,” Brinton revealed.  “She cast a near-hind shoe during the race so that adds to the merit of the win.”

Vinery stallion Pluck, a Breeders’ Cup winning son of More Than Ready, sired his latest stakes winner from Our Seventh Heaven (Vettori).  A NZ-bred winner of the Taupo Cup, she is back in foal to Pluck and her current 2yo is a Poet’s Voice filly on the books with Brunton.

The Vamos Stakes victory followed another Group 1 success for Vinery graduate Russian Revolution in the Oakleigh Plate Gr.1 at Caulfield on Saturday.

Russian Revolution (Snitzel) had won The Galaxy Gr.1 in Sydney last year and is now a red-hot stallion prospect for his owners.  He was a $320,000 buy from Vinery at the 2015 Inglis Easter Sale and has since earned over $1.28 million.

“He was born and raised at Vinery for our good friends and breeders Brian and Noela Backshall,” Vinery’s Bloodstock & Nominations manager Conor Phelan said.  “We’re thrilled for his connections and so proud to see the V brand win another Group 1.”
