HANDSOME colt Merger Benefits looks able to keep the John Cornish/Torryburn Stud flag waving this autumn after a sterling trial win at Randwick on Friday.

Cornish, an AJC Committeeman, bred and raised the flashy son of More Than Ready at his magnificently-appointed nursery at East Gresford (NSW).

Trainer Anthony Cummings elected to debut Merger Benefits in the Inglis Classic on Cox Plate day where he finished fifth behind another Torryburn Stud graduate Marmaa.

Merger Benefits appeared far more at ease at his more familiar surrounds last week winning Heat 10 with a half-length to spare.

Should Merger Benefits make the cut on Golden Slipper day, there is every likelihood he will clash with another of his Torryburn kin in the unbeaten filly, Chance Bye.
