MORE Than Ready entire Mahisara’s spring surge culminated with a commanding win in the Group 3 MRC Sandown Stakes (1500m) in Melbourne yesterday.

The Paul Messara trained four-year-old was sent out as the $3 favourite after an acclaimed win under 59kg to close proceedings on Melbourne Cup day.

Mahisara assumed his usual on-pace style in Saturday’s feature letting rip early in the straight to set up an unassailable lead on his rivals.

The bulky bay powered through the line to win by 2.8-lens ahead of a fast finishing Morant with Darley mare Raspberries a further 1.2-lens away in third.

“When Craig was forced to make a decision, I think he took the right one,” trainer Paul Messara said.

“He quickened far better than I expected him to. I expected him to run on but he showed a great turn of foot today.”

Mahisara is one of 107 individual stakeswinners sired by More Than Ready.

He is also one of more than 50 winners bred on the More Than Ready/Danehill mare cross along with Group 1 winners Benicio, Dreamaway and Perfectly Ready.

Mahisara’s dam, Darsini, foaled a full brother to the multiple stakeswining galloper this season.
