MORE Than Ready 6yo Magic Broomstick unleashed a booming finish to take out the $100,000 River Memories Stakes at Woodbine in Canada on the weekend and notch back to back Stakes wins.

Magic Broomstick, a winner of five races for former trainer Mark Frostad, won first up from a year-long break after transferring to the Malcom Pierce stable with a decisive three length victory in the Avowal S. on Sept. 30.  This was the second start back for the More Than Ready mare and was her second career Stakes win following Gr.2 placings as a 4yo.

Always well back in the big field, Magic Broomstick was set alight from the 600m by jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson but still had plenty of ground to make up on the leaders at the top of the stretch.

Undeterred the pair quickly ate into the deficit and in the words of an astonished racecaller, Magic Broomstick ”finished out of the clouds to win.”

The Kentucky-bred six-year-old mare boasts 7 wins and 5 placings from her 15 starts and boasts multiple placings in the Grade 2 Canadian Stakes.

Her weekend triumph was a case of third time lucky for the mare who had twice finished third in the River Memories at past attempts.

Magic Broomstick is one of 107 individual stakeswinners by her sire.
