Vinery champion Husson (Arg) has broken through the $1 million barrier with two Saturday doubles in Perth and Brisbane this month and an impressive 2yo debutante, Looks Like The Cat.

Ascot trainer George Daly and his brother Wally struck twice in as many weeks with their Husson homebreds Alyssa and Mireille.

Alyssa (3f Husson – Princess Beth by Commands) claimed the Tabtouch Hcp (1600m) at Ascot on February 1.  The Dalys retained her Husson 2yo sister and she has been named Flemish Sky.

Mireille (3f Husson – Admirable by Magic Albert) doubled up in the Rentokil Hcp (1200m) on Saturday.  She finished her first prep on a winning note at Belmont in August and was back on song with a last-stride victory over True Storm.

“We decided to take on the older mares today – she only had to carry 51kg with claim for Natasha (Faithfull) and the inside draw helped, too,” George Daly said.  “We did plan to roll along in front but then a southerly blew in so we elected to take a sit.”

The brothers also kept Mireille’s 2yo sister by Husson and she has been registered as Bersatu Hussonazim.

In Brisbane, Husson’s promising galloper Hi Son will be set for a winter campaign following his victory in the Makers Mark Open (2120m) at Doomben on Saturday, February 1.

Hi Son (4g Husson – Danish Colony by Danzero) was placed in the G3 Gunsynd Classic last year before a hock injury sidelined him for the rest of the carnival.  “I’m keen to step him up to 2200 metres to get a real idea if he can stay,” trainer David Kelly said.  “Then we can go from there and look for bigger things.”

Husson’s versatility was evident when Looks Like The Cat jumped the gun with a brilliant debut in the XXXX Gold 2YO Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.  He is trained by Tony Gollan for Troy, Geoff and Ron Schmidt who make up the River Junction Racing syndicate.

Looks Like The Cat (2c Husson – Fiery Dee by Fraar) is a homebred for the Queensland-based family who also race Group 1 sprinters Spirit of Boom and Temple of Boom.  They sent Fiery Dee back to Husson and she is in foal on a September cover.

Husson (Hussonet) was Australia’s Champion first-season sire by winners in 2011-12 and he’s currently s fifth on the Australian third-season premiership with earnings of $1.08 million.
