The transformation of Red Ransom filly Thump has been little short of amazing reports Breednet.
Looking well exposed earlier in her career as a useful, if somewhat short of top-class filly, the daughter of Red Ransom took six starts to break her maiden, that coming in the Group II Silver Shadow Stakes at Warwick Farm on August 24.
She ran up to that form at her next start when third behind Bound for Earth and Guelph in the Group II Furious Stakes at Randwick on September 7.
Previously the filly had placed twice at two including a second behind Romantic Moon in the Group III Sweet Embrace Stakes.
The Patinack Farm homebred was taken to Melbourne for Friday night’s Group III Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley by trainer John Thompson and she gave nothing else a look in.
Sent straight to the front by Craig Williams, Thump defeated Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Miracles Of Life by two and a quarter lengths.
“We were confident coming here that this track would suit her the way that she races,” Thompson said.
“We will keep poking along and keep her to the twelve hundred (metres).” We will take it one step at a time and see how she pulls up.
Thomson said he was keen to test the filly against the very best.
“It maybe pie in the sky stuff like the (Group 1) Coolmore (Stud Stakes) up the straight,” he said.
With her second stakes win Thump takes her overall record to 2 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds from 9 starts for earnings of $256,750.
From the tenth and final crop of champion international stallion Red Ransom (USA), Thump is the fifth foal of the former class racemare Oomph who was purchased by Patinack in 2006 for $260,000.
A half-sister to Chester Manifold Stakes (LR) winner Noble Red, Oomph numbered four wins in Listed races amongst her six wins and over $300,000 in earnings.
A daughter of champion stallion Flying Spur, Oomph has a 2yo colt by Onemorenomore and a yearling colt by Lope De Vaga (IRE). She was bred back to Husson (ARG) last season.
