DESPITE settling last in the Golden Slipper field, MORE Than Ready filly Elite Falls can lay to be the nation’s best two-year-old filly after storming home in yesterday’s $3.5 Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).

The John O’Shea trained youngster was the first filly home in the world’s richest two-year-old race turning in an extraordinarily strong performance from her 16 barrier.
”She ran enormous,” jockey Jim Cassidy said.

”The barrier didn’t help us. I had to go back but she ran an enormous race.”

Elite Falls was endeavouring to become her sires’ third Golden Slipper winner alongside Sebring and Phelan Ready but matched the efforts of fellow More Than Ready filly Strawberry Field which finished thrid whilst still a maiden last year.

”I don’t think she lost any fans with that run,” Vinery’s Adam White said.
”It is very hard to make ground in a Slipper these days more so when you are giving a big headstart to a colt like Sepoy.
”It was a great effort and I think there is plenty to look forward to once this filly gets to 1400m and a mile. She is going to be a terrific Guineas style of horse in the spring.”
