ALL eyes will be on champion mare More Joyous this weekend in her fabulous quest for an eighth Group 1 win but there is also plenty of interest in the performance of the up and coming filly, Gowana, who is in Adelaide for the Dequetteville Stakes.

The Anthony Freedman trained youngster is seeking to become the 11th individual 2YO winner sired by More Than Ready in Australia this season.

More importantly, a win would make Gowana the 97th global stakeswinner for her illustrious sire.

Bought out of the same draft as Gr.1 winning 2yo Samaready, Gowana is out of city winner Wandane and bred on the successful More Than Ready x Danehill cross.

Meanwhile, back to Randwick, More Joyous will attempt to stretch her uncommon brilliance to the testing 2000m against the likes of Americain and Manighar in an epic Group 1 ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

“The plan was always to give her two runs into the Doncaster and back her up into the Queen Elizabeth,” Strawberry Hills Stud racing and breeding manager Duncan Grimley said.

“Realistically we need to know whether she can run a strong 2000m, everybody tells me she can, but it’s going to be  a good field and a good race, hopefully she is going to be at the top of her tree – I don’t think we should have any excuses.”
