More Than Ready’s Pago Pago Stakes winner, Brightexpectations has taken the first step on his Golden Rose Gr.1 mission recording a stunning 7.8-lens trial win at Randwick.

The Gai Waterhoiuse trained colt was in a league of his own in the 740m heat careering away to put a gap on his rivals in the morning’s most dazzling display of class and speed.

Brightexpectations won the time honoured Pago Pago Stakes by 3.3-lens in a canter in the autumn following his narrow sh-hd defeat in the Skyline Stakes.  Heavily fancied, Brightexpectations headed into the Golden Slipper as More Than Ready’s best chance to claim a third straight Slipper victory following Sebring and Phelan Ready.  Unfortunately, Brightexpectations was not able to repeat his Pago Pago display on the slow track and it was left to the Maiden filly, More Strawberries to fill a place and represent her Champion Sire.

The grey son of More Than Ready is one of a small army of rising 3YO’s from the Waterhouse camp with the $1 million Golden Rose as their main target, however it is evident from this trial that Brightexpectations may take some catching.
